ABOUT THE COMPOSERS
FROM THIS PROGRAM
(...notes written by Tim Reynish...)

Betty Maconchy was Irish, and an early pioneer for women composers, almost ignored by the establishment of course.
Thea Musgrave is Scottish, 90 this year (2018), very distinguished, and she wrote this piece for Evelyn Glennie to premiere with my College Ensemble.
Emily Howard is 39 and a huge success, next work is commissioned by London Symphony and Simon Rattle.
Lucy Pankhurst is 37 and is very much into brass bands and community projects. Both Emily and Lucy are on staff of the Royal Northern College of Music and both studied with Adam Gorb.
Judith is 66 and one of our distinguished middle-aged composers.
